Depending on what town you live in or study in, there are definite differences in what your quality of life and standard of living might be like, especially if you don't have a lot of money and need to live in a complex that has low income apartments. The good news for you if you live in Indianapolis, though, is that the city has recently spent a lot of money to revamp areas of town where there are now low income apartments. The 'catch' with these is that you can only live there for two years, at which point you must purchase a home.
That might sound like it's completely out of reach for a lot of people, but it really isn't. These are low-rent apartments and they let people save up money. While they are there, they also have to attend classes on finances so that they can learn to handle the money that they make, improve their financial situation, and be responsible with their bills. It allows them to make better choices in the present and in the future so that they can qualify for home ownership and move out of the low income apartments. That not only benefits them, but it benefits other people who need the apartments and who don't have a lot of money. They can get the same deal and move forward in their lives, as well.
Not every city does this, of course, but Indianapolis isn't the only place that it's offered. A lot of cities have some form of it either already being used or in the works so that they can help their residents stop struggling so much financially, stop renting, and finally own something that really belongs to them and that they take a lot of pride in.
For many of the people who have lived in low income apartments this isn't an easy road but there are a lot of them who want something better and simply need some help to get it. That's where these kinds of programs come in because they allow people who would otherwise be struggling to learn about finances and manage them in a way that lets them have better and more secure lives.
